Docetaxel in gastric cancer

AbstractPatients with advanced gastric cancer have a poor prognosis. 5-Fluorouracil (F) and cisplatin (C) based regimens are often considered to be reference regimens in the treatment of patients with advanced gastric cancer. Best supportive care in advanced gastric carcinoma results in median survival times of 3–4 months. Docetaxel (D) plus cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil was selected by an Independent Data Monitoring Committee as the test regimen for the second (phase III) stage of the V325 study on the basis of the response rate in the randomised phase II first stage. Chemotherapy–naı̈ve patients were randomised to receive either DCF or CF. Tumour assessments were independently reviewed. At a planned interim analysis on 223 patients (111 DCF/112 CF) both the median time to progression and overall response rate were statistically superior in the DCF arm (5.2 months versus 3.7 months, and 39% versus 23%, respectively). The increase in median survival, 10.2 months compared with 8.5 months in this interim analysis did not yet reach statistical significance. Dynamic Simulations of Combined Transmission and Distribution Systems using Parallel Processing Techniques

In this paper, we propose a Schur-complement-based domain decomposition algorithm to provide accurate, detailed dynamic simulations of the combined system. The simulation procedure is accelerated with the use of parallel programming techniques, taking advantage of the parallelization opportunities inherent in domain decomposition algorithms. The proposed algorithm is general, portable and scalable on inexpensive, shared-memory, multicore machines. A large-scale test system is used for its performance evaluation

De l'explication à la prévision : analyse des perspectives en matière de relations internationales des régions d'Europe

Si l'existence de relations extérieures des régions d'Europe est aujourd'hui largement reconnue, les différences de vue quant à la nature, l'explication, l'évaluation et la prévision du phénomène sont substantielles. Face à la complexité croissante du jeu international pratiqué par les différents niveaux de pouvoir en Europe et la croissance de la production scientifique sur le sujet, le premier objectif de cet article est d'offrir des clés de lecture: il suggère l'utilisation de quatre modèles (néo-réaliste, économie politique internationale, fédéral et post-moderne) comme points de référence pour organiser la présentation de cette littérature. L'examen critique et la comparaison des principales contributions théoriques ainsi organisées permettent ensuite de proposer plusieurs pistes de réflexion d'ordre épistémologique et méthodologique sur l'état de la question.Few deny, nowadays, that European regions go 'abroad'. There are nonetheless substantial differences about the nature of the process, as well as its explanation, evaluation and prevision. Confronted with the complex interaction of the external policies pursued by various levels of power in Europe and the growth of the scientific literature on the topic, the first objective of the article is to provide an analytical grid : it is suggested here that the presentation of this literature could be usefully organized according to four models (neo-realist, international political economy, federal and post-modern). Building on the critical review and comparison of the main theoretical contributions presented in this manner, the article concludes on a number of epistemological and methodological remarks on the state of the discipline
